Childhood Obesity Obesity and overweight are the result of caloric imbalance (too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed) and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors. The issue of obesity and overweight among the children is increasing everyday throughout the world. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention survey, in United States, childhood obesity has increased, more than doubled among children in the past thirty years. The percentage of children ages 6-11 years who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Obesity has physical and mental effects on a person’s personality, it makes them depress and unconfident about themselves because of their physical appearance. Obesity also causes different dangerous diseases in a person’s life. Obesity predisposition in genes passed from parents to children, consumption of junk food or an imbalanced diet, and lack of exercise or laziness are all the main causes of childhood obesity. To begin with, obesity passed on by genes from parents to children is one of the main causes of childhood obesity. Not only obesity in genes of a particular children, effect those children, but those children will also pass the genes to the next generation to come, and this passing of genes will carry on from one generation to another, increasing the obesity rate in childhood.
