An issue in America is obesity. This problem occurs in children and adults. Obesity is a growing problem throughout our country. A cure for this national problem is to begin a weight loss journey. Being overweight or obese does not come from only eating too much without moderate exercise, it can be hereditary. Overeating is not the only cause of weight gain. There are many factors that go into weight gain and being unhealthy. With small changes, that pesky number on the scale can decrease. Weight is a problem that needs to change in America. To begin, obesity can be psychological. In Exploring Psychology written by David G. Myers, says, “Obesity can be socially toxic, by affecting both how you are treated and how you feel about yourself.” The battle with being overweight or obese can be genetic. The varieties of foods and activity levels of individuals can also play a role in weight loss and gain. “A worldwide study of 188 countries (Ng et al., 2014) revealed that over the last 33 years, no country has reduced its obesity rates. Not one” (Myers, 382). America’s obesity rate alone is greater than twenty percent according to stateofobesity.org. “Nationally, nearly seventeen percent of children are obese, and even more are overweight and at high risk of obesity later in life. There have been no significant changes in obesity prevalence in youth between 2004 and 2012” (Elbel, 1). This statistic is frightening. There has been no change in weight in eight years. There is…
