The massive demand for nuclear energy comes from the electronic devices that are in such high demand as well within our modern society. This means that we need to find ways to feed of …show more content…
Nuclear meltdowns will be caused by the overuse of power to make electricity. Then the nuclear reactor gets overheated and if that heat doesn't control it leads radioactive material spilling into the environment (Matson 2011). Making the environment unsafe to live in that are forcing people to leave their homes, so they won't affected by the material. This material can last hundreds of years in the environment before it breaks down have effects on the environment for long periods of time. An example of this is the Fukushima Accident where a devastating tsunami left 18,000 Japanese dead then Japan faced another, potentially bigger, a catastrophe with 300,000 people having to evacuate as several reactors of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant started to meltdown on March 11, 2011 (Noack 2015). From this 70 percent of Japan's population opposed a reliance on nuclear energy to this day and this is from buildings being built on the grounds containing radiation or the radiation that continues to contaminate underground water that the Japanese people drink
