COMPARE the usefulness of MySQL and QBE
Query by example is a language used for relational databases like SQL. Its development was parallel to that of SQL’s as a database language. It was originally only able to retrieve data from a database, it was then later updated to do other operations like insert, update and delete data from a relational database. It is easier and more productive than SQL as you do not need to remember the finer details of the language as you can easily select tables and columns without remembering the names. This is because it translates user actions into specific SQL commands so fewer things need to be remembered. It is also more efficient when searching for data in a database as users can submit a document …show more content…
Microsoft access uses a version of QBE called visual query by example which has a detailed UI. This can help users as it is easier to see what is happening inside the database and therefore simpler to check how the database was created.
Both MySQL and QBE appeared in the mid-70s and since then have been developed parallel to one another. QBE was developed by Moshé M. Zloof as the first graphical query language. SQL was designed to manipulate and retrieve data when first produced whereas QBE could only retrieve it when first made but was later updated to do other operations. As one language was updated as was the other as they were developed together to act as parallel, this is because QBE relies on a language like SQL for the specific commands but QBE turns actions by the users into SQL strings.
Both MySQL and QBE are used to create relational databases with relationships, however they have many differences which makes them more suitable to specific users, such as QBE is simpler so better for beginners. Both are excellent at their purposes as they can make tables which can be looked over and modified, however, there is some advantages and disadvantages to
