Internet is something that most people use at least once a day, whether it is for social media, checks sports scores, or just watching YouTube videos, it is something that everyone enjoys. At Niagara Equipment Corp. CEO Justine Timmons believes that installing a new internet monitoring program, limiting internet use to the employees, is that best solution to increase productivity, the employees of Niagara Equipment Corp. believe otherwise. They believe that there are far less drastic measures that can be put in place to solve said issue. It is in my belief that there should not be internet restrictions, or rather very little internet restrictions. It can be argued that, employees will frequently throughout the day check their social media, or watch videos, and are getting less done. Not to mention wasting company resources. Similarly, “when staff members use their computers to access offensive or inappropriate material that can be seen by their fellow workers, this creates a hostile workplace environment, thereby exposing the company to expensive and demoralizing lawsuits. According to author Laura Vanderkam, “no one can get through a whole workday without taking a break.” “In fact, one 2009 study found that workers who could occasionally check the internet were happier at work than those who could not only” (Employees of Niagara Equipment Corp.). While it may not seem like it, happiness in a workplace is very important to the employee, and employer. An employee whom is not happy in their work environment will be less motivated, and won’t want to try as hard, and there for display a decrease in productivity.
