He points out that he is, not arguing that, “new opportunities and connections are unimportant, [He] instead is arguing that you don’t need social media help to attract them.” (pg. 3 2016). What Newport is conveying to the audience is that people depend on social media to attract them to new opportunities and connections. Social media does help with that however, he is referring to social media as a tool, while other people are using social media as a crutch. I agree with what Newport (2016) is arguing for. Social media is a tool and not a crutch. Social media does create a high-level of stress to the employer. It also isn’t that special. It be unprofessional if not used correctly.
One reasons why I agree that social media effects the work place is because it is a high-level stress provider. For example, whenever I post a picture on any of my social media accounts, I make sure that the picture is as perfect as it could be since I am sending it out to the public to be judged. Especially since Caliche’s is informed about their employees having a social media and the photos they take. Also, whenever I would post a photo and it receives a high number of people who admire it, then it makes me feel that the next photo I post has to be as good, if not better than the last. My boss AJ (2016) explained his view on social media in our work place. He says, “Social media is definitely viewed as a tool in our company. The frontier of business is ever changing and I believe social media is a platform in which businesses are getting most exposure.” (2017). In other words, why my boss is trying to explain is that Caliche’s wouldn’t be reaching as many people as they would if they didn’t use social media. Another reason why I agree with Newport (2016) is because social media is unprofessional. For example, at Caliche’s, every employee, including managers, place their phones in a box underneath the main register. Out of sight, out of might; we get rid of the temptation all together so we will not be checking out phones every 5 minutes. We also like to put ourselves in the customers shoes to help better the company. If we were a customer and we saw one of Caliche’s employees on their phones rather than doing something productive does not look
