What are the negative effects of watching television on children?
Technology has evolved and continues to evolve as the years go by. One specific type of technology television has evolved a lot throughout the years. On television today, there are so millions of channels either shown through cable networks and satellite networks, and a lot of them are aimed for adults. Even the programming for these channels has advanced so much that sex and nudity is easily shown on channels such as HBO and Showtime. In today’s society, television has become easily accessible either through television sets, smartphones, video gaming counsels, and computers screens. A child is easily able to get their hands on it and stare at it for hours and hours. But the

According to the article Smarter children? thank TV, states that “In fact, the linkage between good behavior and watching good programming is as strong as the link between bad behavior and bad programming”(Christakis, 2007, para. 5). Therefore if a child is watching educational programs such as Sesame Street, Blue Clues, and Mr. Dress up, they will learn good behaviour from it which will influence them and cause them to learn from it. However the same can be said about bad programing, since the child may start to learn behaviour from it but if a child is watching programs that are not “good” or inappropriate such as violence, immature, adult theme programing such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, Game Of Thrones, then children can learn and be influence on what they see on television so the child may act out, become rude, aggressive, withdrawn etc. Especially since the article also states that “The problem is that kids are increasingly watching shows with violence and sex instead of programming that is appropriate for their age”(Christakis, 2007, para. 5). Children are becoming easily influences to programing that is inappropriate and that they sometimes do not even understand what they are watching. For example a child may put on a channel that is showing a movie and it has violence and sex in it and the child leaves it on because the fighting interests or intrigues him/her. They will then be learning that kind of behaviour and they may decide to follow through with
