It was acquired by the university in 1993 and is known as a “sensitive eco-system,” as it contains many native plant and wildlife species such as Douglas firs, ferns, arbutus trees and woodpeckers (UVic). The forest consists of a trail that is often used by many students for activities like running and hiking. Because of the trail’s popularity, it is subject to quite a bit of littering. There is one garbage can that is situated at the entrance of Mystic Vale closest to Parking Lot 1, though for understandable reasons there are none deeper into the forest itself. Although we are correct, I am not completely if it is for the same reasons as we hypothesized. There are many other factors that could have resulted in the cleanliness of the forest, such as a decline in visitation as the weather got colder; a general change un attitude towards littering; and a decline in the garbage produced to litter in the forest. There is no way of finding out exactly why the litter production lessened as the term progressed, but I’m assuming that it is most likely a combination of the listed
