Gatesburggogreen Initiative Case Study

Improved Essays
Gatesburg residents, businesses, and city officials recently proposed a recycling initiative that'll have a positive impact on the city and environment. The GatesburgGoGreen Initiative will reduce the amount of waste added to the county landfill by 90% over five years, while improving city budget by eliminating the need for a new landfill. This system will be well regulated, monitored, and done in a manner to ensure the city of Gatesburg is doing its part to benefit the planet. In 10 years, the county landfill will be closed if Gatesburg doesn't take action. Gatesburg has already banned the dumping of recyclable construction waste and started a composting program for yard clippings and leaves, but the GateseburgGoGreen Initiative will provide another effective manner of reducing waste for the county. By inacting the GatesburgGoGreen Initiative, citizens will be reducing their waste production, which is an average of four pounds daily for Americans, while avoiding the tax buredon of opening a new landfill. …show more content…
Composte waste includes food waste, such as orange peels, fruit seeds, peels, and shells. Recyclable waste includes papers and plastics. The city's taxpayers will be responsible for hiring workers and recycling bins for the city. Gatesburg plans to pay dividens for those investments, and sell its recyclables. Although it seems to be an initial tax buredon, the cost of a new landfill will be more expensive than enacting the GatesburgGoGreen Initiative, meaning the choice to recycle will be saving Gatesburg

The majority of trash we removed accumulated from people throwing it in the creek and by water washing trash into the creek. To prevent this I am recommending spending $60,000 to employ a French Creek Environmental Educator to travel the watershed, especially near French Creek, to educate individuals about the economic and environmental effects of polluting the French Creek Watershed. It is cheaper and more cost effective to prevent than clean up of pollutants as clean up costs include disposal, risk, and the environmental damage that could not be prevented (Garbisu & Itziar Alkorta, 2001). This concept makes it more effective to look so spend the money coming in from sponsors on prevention rather than…

The GatesburgGoGreen Initiative is a great idea but also a somewhat bad idea at the same time. Both articals bring up good/valad points. The GGG Initiative is great because it will bring up the recyceling rate substantionally, but there is a point that you shouldn't crosswhen it comes to survalance of the waste. The GGG Initiative is great because it will decrease landfill by a lot, which is a fantastic idea seeing that we have a lot of un-nessisary waste. There are a lot of people that dont understand how to recycle correctly and the GGG program can fix it and teach people what goes where so that we can save our planet for a little bit longer.…

Connecting the Community through Food Scraps (Mid Term Goal) Whether or not UIC decides to utilize an anaerobic digester to process food waste a portion should be captured for compost production. This could be used to cut costs on landscaping compost needs, for expansions of UIC’s Heritage Community Gardens, and to provide compost for local community gardeners. A vacant lot on UIC’s west side provides a opportunity to turn a desolate field that separates organizations into a community garden/farm that could connect them, while processing food scrap into compost. The vacant lot is in-between UIC’s College of Applied health Sciences, Department of Public Health, the Jesse Brown VA medical Center, and the Carole Robertson Center for Learning.…

    Food Waste In America

A sizeable portion of the waste are crops that go directly from field to dump, which brings up a tangled mess of issues like farm subsidies, trade and, oddly enough, what happens to ugly apples. The USDA believes one driving force in the waste has been the stream of images of perfect fruit/veggies dating back to the earliest days of color advertising that has left Americans squeamish of perfectly healthy potatoes or squash that don’t mature in the ideal shape/color. Most grocery distributors don’t even bring ugly fruit to market. Other than lightening up some on how we select produce, there isn’t much an average American can do to tackle the big picture of industrial produce…
