The majority of the country’s population is made up of the agriculture sector. The presence of U.S. companies is the solution, not the problem. With the presence of these companies could help promote democratic values, set a positive example, and improves the general quality of life by providing adequate pay and health and educational benefits. The largest city in Myanmar, Pangon, has a population of 5.2 million people where only 42% have access to clean running water, and 10% have a sewage infrastructure, while 40% of the people survive on a day-to-day basis (Dale, Kyle 2015). In 2013 the former President of Myanmar, Thein Sein, instituted his version of the “New Deal” that would focus on the local and every day concerns of the people. Myanmar wants change and is completing their goals for change, now it is time for America to do its part and recognize that this country is a rising star with many benefits of doing business with them. The continuance of this sanction will only raise the cost of U.S. economics and put a harsher strain on the strategic interest in the region. The changing of the regime in Myanmar and maintain a free democratic state has proved that this country is ready to be reintroduced to the United States. To maintain this policy affects the everyday common citizen and is forced to scrape by with little earnings and no jobs to keep them above
