Over this past spring semester, I have obtained a total of 75 hours of field experience in the CCC Childcare UPK 1 classroom. My overall impression of the experience is that it truly exposed me to what it’s like caring for and teaching young children, and all the responsibility that accompanies it. I truly enjoyed my time in the UPK 1 classroom and after being there six hours a week, sometimes more, I feel a genuine connection to these children and the classroom. This entire experience taught me a lot, not only about early childhood education, but about myself and what I’m capable of. Working with four and five year olds opened my eyes to a way thinking that I had lost.…

Every teacher has their own philosophy on children and teaching within the early years. This philosophy is based around their beliefs and values, research and personal experience about children and the way they learn and the role of their educators. It is important that a teacher is clear on their philosophy, as they will draw on it for all that they do.(Arthur, Beecher, Death, Dockett& Farmer, 2012). This essay will explore one such philosophy that will be supported by research, varying theories as well as exploring what this would look like within a classroom.…

Violet is seven years old and is in the second grade. Her teacher said that although she is close to grade level in reading fluency and word recognition, Violet is significantly below grade level expectations in reading and listening comprehension skills. Because she does not fall below the cut score for our reading intervention programs, the teacher is very concerned that Violet may “fall between the cracks” as she progresses in school. She is trying to equip Violet with strategies to build inference and comprehension skills. The class has begun learning about the three branches of government in Social Studies, and the teacher invited me to present a lesson to the class.…

There are quite a few reasons for why I am taking this course. The first reasoning, and probably the most important to me, is to learn more about documentation. From previous child development classes, my professors have touched on this topic but never went more thoroughly into that topic. In this course, it looks like a majority of it revolves around observations and documentation. In the syllabus, the course description mentioned learning different strategies when doing observations and documentations.…

I agree with Moss (2010), who states “the educator needs to appreciate the range of disciplines, theories and practices available, and to understand her or his responsibility to decide where to situate herself or himself in this complex and diverse range of possibilities” (Moss, 2010, p. 15). Within education there are diverse disciplines, theories and practices, and like Moss, I believe its imperative for educators to have knowledge and an understanding of these before they are able to make informed decisions on where they position themselves within early childhood teaching, learning and development. This assignment intends to demonstrate the position I have taken, and include a critical analysis of the current early childhood curriculum and…

I believe that early childhood education is an essential for school readiness. Early childhood education plays an important role in children’s development in cognitive and social skills. At the age of three years old the children begin to develop more rapidly. Children progress in their physical, social, intellectual, and emotional. According to The Urban Child Institute, studies have shown that “from the ages of 0 to 3, a baby’s brain grows to 80% of its adult size and is twice as active as adults”.…

Assignment 1 From reviewing and skimming through the syllabus and book the three items that I find the most interesting is Early childhood education as a profession, Health, Safety, and Communicating with Young children, and Modeling adult relationships in early childhood settings. I chose early childhood as a profession because it has always been my passion to work with children choosing this profession can’t just be a random choice it has to be something a person want to do. When it comes to working with children you have to be patient, nurturing, you must abide by certain rules in the work place as well as state laws. The text put this topic first because it gives details about what it means to be an early childhood educator, it talks…
