On Wednesday, February 10, 2010, I did not have any idea my life would change drastically. It was around 7 o’clock in the evening. I was in bed and my home phone began ringing. I did not recognize the number so I did not answer the phone. I worked third shift and I had to be at work at 11 o’clock p.m. The phone continued to ring about ten more different times from numbers I did not recognize. My mom called on my cell phone and I immediately answered the phone. She would never call me that time of the night unless something was wrong because she knew I had to be at work in a few hours. She said Ricky had shot my Aunt Michelle (her sister). I began screaming and at that time my Cousin Bridgett called and told me what had happened. I told her we would help our Aunt Michelle get through therapy and she said she had passed away. I did not want to accept her being gone. I received a phone call from a close friend of mine, Adrienne McGarity. She said she was sorry to hear about my loss. I knew when she said that it was true because her husband Larry McGarity was the detective on the case. Although, I had heard from reliable sources my Aunt Michelle had passed from multiple gunshot wounds, I still went to work because I was in denial. After I got to work, people began giving me their condolences I knew then it had to be true. I went to the restroom and began praying and crying uncontrollably.
