My Career As A Medical Assistant Essay

When I was a child when someone asked me, "What are you going to be when you grow up?" My answer was always, "I am going to be a nurse." When I attended college the first time, my answer became, "I 'm not sure what I want to be." Right out of high school making the decision of what you are going to do for the rest of your life is scary, so I juggled back and forth from teaching and nursing. I eventually decided to take a break for a while until I knew what I needed to do. In the process of the two-year break, I became a Certified Medical Assistant. It is with the experience I have gained during the work as a Medical Assistant that I know I have a passion for helping others and caring for them and I know that nursing is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Growing up I watched my mom go in and out of the hospital for years, watched my dad go through multiple surgeries on his ankle, watched my Uncle suffer from cancer in his arm and survive it, and unfortunately watched my great- grandmother die from ovarian cancer. I never shied away from a chance to help or learn something new, I remember the nurse letting me take the stitches out of my dad 's ankle when he went back for a check-up and I thought it was the most amazing thing and bragged about it for months. The most memorable experience for me was being able to help care for my Great-Grandmother during her last days, while she was in hospice care.
