First of all, Mr.I.M.Weird is insane because he can’t distinguish fantasy from reality. He believes he hears things that others can’t hear. After the murder he thought he heard the old man’s heart before he confessed. We think he was really just listening to his own heart believing it was the old man’s heart. In section one it tells “I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in the hell.” A sane person would not be listening things in the heaven and in hell, and if they were to listen the beating of the heart they will just make up ideas like believe it was there heart or they will think they are imagining it. He believes he loves the old man and that his gold was not what he wanted, it was the eye that troubled him. In section two it reads “I loved the old man.” This shows that he can’t tell if he does love the old man or not.He thought killing the man will get rid of the eye and nothing bad will happen. A sane person would have known if they do love the old man if they did than they will just live with the eye if they didn’t they would have not admitted in loving the old man.
