One of the many things that really happened was when Francois Pienaar gave his victory speech. In the movie as well as in real life, he stated that the team didn 't have 60,000 people in the stadium cheering for them. Instead, he said that him and the team had the support of over 43 million South Africans, cheering for them. This statement that Francois made, proved that South Africa was coming together, once again. Everyone was supporting their country, and had hope (1995 RWC). Another way that the film accurately portrays history is when the Springboks sang their national anthem right before the 1995 World Cup. Before hand, they asked a tutor to help them with the words, so none of them would mispronounce any. Then, in history as well as in the film Invictus, the whole Springboks team sang the South African anthem before the World Cup began. This also showed how proud the team was of their country, and how they didn’t want to play for any other country (Springboks Sing). Those are just a few things, along with many others, that were historically accurate in the film

Successful manipulation by composers of genre’s codes and conventions are necessary to provoke curiosity by challenging stereotypical expectations. Through this authenticity and personality are clearly expressed in the literature and film produced. The novel, Tomorrow When the War Began (TWTWB) by John Marsden and the film, The Hunger Games (THG) directed by Gary Ross are prime examples that both challenge and manipulate the conventions of the war drama genre. As a result the product showcases a differing perspective to denounce audience’s original opinions through the conventions of a safehouse setting; theme of good and evil; hero protagonist and military weaponry. Literature and film are perfect avenues to project differing opinions in innovative…

Based on author, Michael Shaara’s award winning novel, The Killer Angels, the film The Battle of Gettysburg made its debut on screen in the United States, on October 8, 1993. The film vividly depicts the epic three day battle of Gettysburg. Nearly identical to the novel, the film’s main focus is on the experiences of General Robert E. Lee, Lieutenant General James Longstreet, Colonel Joshua Chamberlain and Brig. When it comes to history, nothing can be one-hundred percent accurate, and this was the case with the film The Battle of Gettysburg. The film does its best as possibly as it can by getting as close to being accurate, which will have many historians agree with.…

This lead to Apartheid, which was a longer period of time filled with discrimination in South Africa (1948-1994). The events we remember throughout our lives get molded into an alternative version of the actual truth through retelling and embellishment. “Story truth” is the term Tim O’Brien uses to describe this variation of the truth. In his book, “The Things They Carried,” O’Brien uses “story truth” to compel his readers to feel what he experienced during his service in war. With “story truth,” O’Brien provides us with an account of his personal experiences, as well as an idea of what others may have experienced, and explains how “story truth” can be dissected and analyzed as historical evidence. “Story truth” is the reshaped, exaggerated, and/or sometimes completely made-up version of the actual truth.…

Throughout Hollywood’s years they have come up with several war films, some of them very good and some of them very bad. What makes them good and bad depends on the group or individual watching it. Some people like to watch to see how we have evolved as a country and others look to see people die. Though some Hollywood producers provide an accurate depiction of war in an unbiased manner, several glorify war to the extent of romanticizing what should be a serious topic.…

War is truly a traumatic experience that no one who’s involved can truly get over. War forces you to see all the gruesome and negative things you never thought you would experience. Tim O’Brien is a prime example of just how much war can put you through and how it changes you as a person. Tim was just in need of venting and expression and so he embodied all of his horrific and flabbergasting experiences in a novel known as “The Things They Carried” along with various soldiers he met along the way while fighting for both his country and his life. Tim O’Brien once made the assertion in an interview with Texas Monthly which states “Good movies—and good novels, too—do not depend upon accurate portrayals.…
