Luyu Chen Film Critique Assignment The movie "cast away" (2000) directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks is a movie about survival in nature. Hanks portrays a FedEx employee who is stranded on an uninhabited island for 1500 days which is over four years after his plane crashes on a flight over the South Pacific. The film depicts his attempts to survive on the island using remnants of his plane 's cargo, as well as his eventual escape and return to society. Hanks was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 73rd Academy Awards for his critically acclaimed performance in this classic movie. The genres of this film are the mix of drama, action and adventure. In the movie, Tom Hanks did a superb job of carrying nearly the whole movie all by himself, and at the end of this movie, he has experienced both physical and spiritual survival. "We live or die by the clock, as we never ever allow ourselves the sin of losing track of time." The main character of this film is called Chuck Noland, who is an extremely self-disciplined and time-obsessed person who works for FedEx, a cargo company. Before that flight crash, everything in his life is ruled by time, and this is what kept him from engaging with his girlfriend, Kelly. After the crash, he was left alone on an isolated island in the middle of Pacific Ocean and everyone thinks that he has died because of this catastrophe.
