The Oscar winning movie Castaway directed by Robert Zemecks, starring Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland a worker from Fedex travels to different countries to guide them to get their packages out faster. On Christmas he is summoned to help with packages, eventually his plane crashes in the ocean, he is the only survivor he finds an island and lives on the island for about 5 years before an item washes on shore to help him home. Eventually he builds a raft and a ship finds him on his little nature made raft. He finally gets to go home, to find that his soon to be fiance has married his dentist. From beginning to end symbolism travels it is shown in the very beginning when the truck is at the crossroads, that describes that there are many choices to make. On Christmas as Chuck and Kelly are trading presents before Chuck has to leave. Chuck has received an old pocket watch as he opens it on the inside of the lid is a picture of Kelly, Chuck gives Kelly her presents and she gets towels and other items, so as Chuck gets out of the car he starts walking and Kelly moves to the driver’s seat and hollers at him, he forgot to leave the keys, so as he comes back with the keys he also gives her a small box, another present, he never tells her what is inside but he says to wait to open it till New Year’s Eve. In the box we can infer that it is an engagement ring. That engagement ring symbolized promise, promise that he would be back by New Year's Eve, and promise that he would be her’s for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately he doesn’t make it back by then, but while he is on the plane and he sees the pocketwatch on the ground you can tell that it is very important to him. On the island that pocketwatch resembled hope and home. In the movie symbolism was very big so I highlight this as an important piece of the movie

    W. D. Snodgrass’s “Leaving the Motel” focuses profoundly on language, tone, and symbolism, along with other strategies to express the idea of love as fleeting, yet businesslike. The poem tells a story of the happenings between two people at a motel after a surreptitious sexual meeting. These two people are participating in a secret affair and Snodgrass’s technicality expresses the formality and routine that their connection demands. Although the encounters are businesslike, situations in the poem suggest the two share tenderness and intimacy. However, this is suppressed by the well-organized discerning thoughts and activities of the two lovers as they prepare to leave the motel.…

Also, the symbolisms in both films were very import, so is the point of view because it helps to bring the movies to life. From the narrator’s point of view, the magical feeling of the bathhouse and the ship were breathtaking. Both stories were told from a third persons’ point of view. The audiences were only allowed to see what was happening to the characters throughout the movies; however, they were not able to see what they were feeling or thinking. For example, in “Spirited Away” there were many scenes were Lin or Haku, two characters development, helping Chihiro to succeed; the storyteller didn’t provide any information as to why they were helping her or the audience couldn’t tell what these two minor characters were thinking.…

Symbolism Within “The Veldt” Within literature, symbolism is used by assigning symbolic meanings to objects, settings, or actions to represent an idea or characteristic. In the short story “The Veldt,” Ray Bradbury uses various symbols within the text that allow the readers to identify what the author is trying to tell them. The symbols allow the readers to define the character of Wendy and Peter and the relationship they have with their parents and the house, a broader understanding of the setting and to understand the story’s theme. Wendy and Peter are the children of George and Lydia. The relationship they have isn’t as affectionate as it should be, since George installed machinery that would take care of them all, the children grew up learning that they would have everything handed to them and wouldn’t…

Sometimes, people carry things. Things that mean a lot to a certain person, and can symbolize something important. These things can mean a lot to these people, and one can tell a lot about certain people by the things they carried. An example of this could be something simple like saying that someone carrying a textbook could show that the person is a student, or maybe someone carrying a fishing rod could show that the person goes fishing. While it is not always true that things people carry mean the same thing to everyone, it is safe to assume that they usually do.…

Sunsets are a very unique way to capture the idea of similarities between two concepts. However, when relating to The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, it is completely normal; in fact, it makes total sense. The novel includes two gangs that were constantly after each other--and not in playful ways. They were very violent and were always willing to hurt the other side; they completely despised each other. Those two gangs were the Greasers and the Socs, and they lived on opposite sides of town: the East side and the West side.…
