The assistant manager at times tries to talk this student out of moving up and becoming a manager. If the assistant manager would put aside his own beliefs that are negative and focus on the tasks at hand and the goals that need to be set, then it would allow for an easier work environment. Focusing too much on the negative can cause a person to feel hatred for something, which then is passed onto other associates. As discussed in class, it does make a difference in the work culture and atmosphere the way a manager walks into work. If this assistant manager walked in every morning with a positive attitude and a sincere smile then the other associates would feel more energetic. This student does not allow the assistant manager to maker her unmotivated because she feels it is up to her to get to where she wants to be in her career. This student would like more responsibility on a regular basis from her assistant manager. She feels that she needs to be led by him and shown the vision so that she can implement it in her everyday work. To become a manager at this student’s job, one must past a management test. This student is studying and training everyday for the test so that she will score high. Even though the assistant manager does not expect much out of her, she expects more from herself. Setting high goals and expecting to achieve them makes this student feel more excited and energetic at working. This student does feel that through instrumentality she could be more motivated as well. She wants to increase her performance and work harder. If she knew that by doing her job well and exceling at everything she does in her department that her performance will be noticed and talked about to the upper level management.
