Lloyd Gage “A man of many Jobs”: Motivation is a strong quality that most successful managers/leaders of organizations, teams, or establishments have. Lloyd has to have the ability to motivate many people that he interacts with on daily bases. He must motivate his fellow employees in the Department of Health and Wellness at Murray State College to help the students of the college achieve the success in education that they are all paying for. He also must motivate his students in the classes he teaches at the college to do their work and turn it in on time in order to be successful in college academics and graduate with a degree. In Lloyd’s case, he has two different jobs at completely two different locations working with completely different people, so he must have the ability to plan his day out and his agenda for the two separate job specifications. He must have an agenda planned for his employees throughout the health and wellness program and also have an agenda/lesson planned for the classes he has on certain days. Not only does he have to plan out his day as a leader of other people, but he has to plan out his day and have time management since he has two different places of work. Coach Gage then also has to plan out a practice for the pitchers and a weight lifting plan for the whole team. Not to mention he has a newborn baby at home and a wife who also works nights at the hospital. He must plan accordingly to make sure someone or himself is watching and taking care of the baby. Having and executing his plan exactly as it is laid out is crucial in order to be effective and efficient in every aspect that he is the leader of. Planning in the health and wellness department and the classroom is meant to help others and the staff as a whole achieve goals. The staff wants their students to be successful and graduate and move on to bigger and better things in life and the students must have plans to achieve the highest level of success that can reach. These plans are broken up into a couple different times, a short-term goal, a mid-term goal, and a long-term goal. According to the Contemporary Management textbook, when leaders plan they look at what the future goals must look like in order to achieve success and set their present plans accordingly in order to meet these goals (Jones, 239). Mr. Gage sets his lesson plans for his students on what the students in particular fields of study within the health and wellness program will see in their lines of work.
