Auschwitz was a pretty expansive camp, but the author describes the scene like he knew it like the back of his hand. He went through the social status of each inmate, the camp’s treatment to Jews, the in and outs of Mengele’s choosing of who dies, and the camp’s processes. When you are taken in under one of the leader’s wings, it is almost necessary to understand everything about the camp itself
So far, this book is a definite page turner. I am aware that more gruesome memories are in the near future, but it is clear to see that this book tells the truth. Nyiszli states that there is no use for him to lie, and what good does it do for those who cannot tell their story? Afterall, it is clear to see that the Nazi’s were evil even in the beginning.
I am looking forward to seeing if Nyiszli goes into detail about the infamous experiments Mengele did to innocent victims of the Holocaust. I am well aware that Nyiszli is a doctor, but Mengele did not assign him a job yet. I can only wonder what horrors await Nyiszli, nonetheless. Even if he becomes a camp doctor, he will bare witness to the horrors of Auschwitz. It will not be long until he is seeing the truth behind an extermination
