Life in the Streets
Have you ever caught yourself complaining about something so meaningless? Like not getting enough likes on a social media post, breaking a nail, not wanting to get out of bed in the morning or even someone stepping on your shoes. Perhaps, we should begin to really appreciate the meaningful things we posses. For example; good health, being employed and having a roof over our heads. It is important for us as humans to avoid perpetuating over the things that we do not have or simply can’t change. The documentary "On the Streets" published on Mar 25, 2016 by New York Times’s Journalist and filmmaker Lisa Biagiotti, is a 12-part video web series that explores the reality of homelessness in certain areas of Southern California. The film exposes a number of people who are dealing with this social problem. It starts off by following The Times ' homeless data map which -- shows a population of individuals, vehicles and encampments occupied by the homeless that were counted in our census tract. After looking at the map we notice that the majority of homeless are individuals who are dotted in Red. Infact, some of those individuals volunteered to be interviewed and open up to the audience about their current situation. His friend is a pregnant woman who claims that her and her husband have been homeless for 2 months. They had a set back, periodically lost everything and they are now living in the streets. Lisa asks Khalil where he is currently staying and he points to different directions to show that he stays everywhere in the streets of downtown L.A. Khalil goes on to mention how he used to be somebody, now he is just somebody else who still has plans. He points out that life is not hard it is just a challenge, and that nothing is hard. He has a high school diploma and a college degree. Khalil states “They are looking at us like we are homeless, we are not homeless, we are house less because we do not have a house.
