A lot of 9th graders love a good and in-depth mystery. A man who is believed to be George Fenton Lee was found dead in one of the tavern rooms. He had a sword impaled straight through his heart, but there were many other clues. A cup of wine, a cup of alcohol that tasted funny, and a silver earring perched on the bed stand, and Abby noticed Lee’s estranged wife was nowhere to be found. Abby obtained a strange packet of letter and an account book hidden in Lee’s saddle bag. The next day British soldier were snooping all over the place and Abby knew why. Abby asked why one of his sword was impaled through Lee’s chest, but Phillips insisted is it wasn’t any of the British soldiers. She quickly open each letter to find out they were from Ben Franklin, and were addressed to famous men, such as Thomas Jefferson. The next day after she hid the letters, she realized they were gone, and a British guard said the only person he saw leaving, was a frail man. The mystery in this book is full of windy turns and things that you wouldn’t exactly expect, which is exactly what a reader looks for in a mystery book.
