This book takes place in in 1692 during the Salem Witch Trials, where you were put to death if you were believed to be involved in witchcraft. In the Puritan town of Salem, the church and state were one, meaning that if you went against religion, you were subject to punishment by the community. Many people were accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. To try and help there case, they would accuse others who they believed deserved to die. Some of the accused, such as Goody Procter, had good intentions, but faced charges as a witch. People blaming others of witchcraft to have them die and good people being accused makes the primary theme of this play good vs. evil. An example of evil would be when Abigail got fired from John Proctor’s house
