She does this to provide a real life case that can connect the situation to the readers own lives. She does not just use any old example however, she uses a mother whose lifelong dream was to be a lawyer. Once she had made it to her goal, her husband and her own brutal work hours made it impossible for childcare duties. Bennetts made sure to add the fact that her husband understood his wife’s stress level, but was only putting it on her to leave work. Bennetts gives this example of the husbands’ ignorance, to urge the reader in feeling the anger that she is trying to prove is in these women. If she had not have gave this personal example, it would not have felt like there were much hard facts in her argument. Also, she tells the readers that the wife’s decision had made her upset. Pitying her for having to leave her loved career, to accept thankless responsibilities of a stay-at-home mom.
