In the advert for Dior Homme Perfume, both the male and female actors are sexualised in different ways to gain pleasure from both sexes. This has been done to gain a wide audience however this is one commercial that suggests that Laura Mulvey’s theory is incorrect in the conclusion that it came to because is a range of media products men and women are used to sell merchandise in a sexual way not so one sex is more dominant than the other. That being said, women are more objectified in media products overall which suggests that there is not equality for men and women in the media. In films “the Smurfs” and “the Muppets” only one female character is frequently shown throughout, where they are both very girly, and very stereotypical for female behaviours. Smurfette is only Smurf that is female and she has been created as a typical girl that “every young girl wants to grow to be” she has blonde hair, a short dress and high heels. This may suggest that the Male Gaze starts early and this is why social attitudes are not changing as fast as they should be because strong troops are still shown in films for children. Both men and women are treated as sexual objects however I believe for women to get true equality the media needs to have a wider range where it is not just using men and women’s bodies to sell there products. There should be more choice in the media so that different people can interact with it in different ways so that the audiences become more diverse and men and women become closer together to being equal on the
