Imagine being wrongly convicted of a crime because of your race.In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this book fallow a little southern family in the small town of Maycom. This story shows the gradual change in these two kids named Scout and her older brother Jem. This story focuses on a court case of a African American named Tom Robinson who has been wrongly convicted of rape.

Something that Atticus says is “Simply because we’re licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win.” This basically means even though we have a bad history with African Americans doesn 't mean we shouldn 't try to win this case. This shows that Atticus wants defend Tom Robinson and his human rights.

To begin, Atticus should have defended Tom Robinson because he is receiving an unfair trial simply of race. For example, when Atticus was talking to Mr. Tate which of Mayella’s eyes were black and they concluded that it was her left eye but there was a problem with that. “He got it caught in a cotton gin, caught it in Mr. Dolphus Raymond’s cotton gin when he was a boy… like to bled to death … tore all the muscles loose from his bones”(Pg.249). This quote proves that Tom couldn 't hit Mayella in her left eye because he lost the ability to use his left arm as a boy.
Which shows that Mr. Ewell is left handed.”The jury was watching him, one man was leaning forward with his hands over the railing. “What’s so interestin’?” “You’re left handed Mr. Ewell,”(Pg.237). This…
