In the book to Kill a Mockingbird the author shows the reader what it is like to experience many events and emotions in the time. Even though there are a lot of events and emotions, I think that the novel mainly shows experiences of racism, through unfair court cases, racist comments and racist stereotypes. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, unfair court case is just one of the ways racism is portrayed throughout the novel. For example, the quote ‘"He got me round the neck, cussin' me an' sayin' dirt--I fought'n'hollered, but he had me round the neck. He hit me agin an' agin--"’(pg. 205) and the quote ,“His left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right, and hung dead at his side.”(pg. 211) work hand in hand to prove that Tom’s case is unfair and biased. These quotes explains Tom’s innocence because the first quote says that, “He got me round the neck...He me agin an’ agin”, which shows that if Tom was the one who raped her, that he must of had two strong arms but he doesn't because his left got caught in a cotton gin. The second example of racism in To Kill a Mockingbird, is when people start making up wrong and hateful stereotypes of black people. For example, on page 275 Scout impersonates the county and says “To Maycomb, Tom’s death was Typical.
