A great actor will make the viewer believe he is the character he is playing and in doing so helps the audience relate to the story. However in Taken, the acting within the film seems to be unrealistic and far fetched as the movie progresses. By doing so makes it very difficult for viewers to relate to the film. As the film progresses, we discover Kim’s actual agenda of traveling to Paris to follow rock band U2 for their European tour, instead of the lie she told her father. After Kim and her friend Amanda settle into Amanda's cousin's apartment, Kim decides to call her father to check in.…
What am I looking for in a script and a performance? I want to hear a story that is relevant, has some universal appeal, and I can relate to it. I want…
So I think that acting/storytelling has always been motivated by the simple desire of play for both myself and the audience. I’m fascinated by the simultaneous event of entertainment and catharsis that occurs when we tell…
In the musical “Little Shop of Horrors”, Seymour Krelborn (one of main characters), is an orphan and outcast who works as a florist’s assistant. Seymour raised by Mr. Mushnik, the owner of Mushnik’s Skid Row Florist. Seymour discovers a unique plant that attracts customers, fame and fortune. Will Eno’s play “Intermission” is arranged as a play in between a play, with all of the action inserted during the intermission of a play that the characters are attending. From the beginning of this play it is noted that the four major actors have issues with time, reality, and boredom by their conversations. The same could be said for the intermission during Andrew Lee’s performance. In considerations of Eno’s play and Lee’s performance, what are the effects of and intermissions insertion or absence in a real or imagined event will be analyzed. The issue of timing is established at the onset of the play.…
In our class play we performed, “Ducks in Cowville,” but it was a bust. Our failure was not just one person’s fault. We all contributed to the disaster. The atrocious acting was the main reason that “Ducks in Cowville” was a wreck.…
With an abundance of new characters in “When Calls the Heart” this season, sometimes only the most observant viewers might notice the handful of smaller roles that pop up now and then on the show. I was immeasurably excited when I finally figured out who the character Katie Yost was, and once I connected with the actress who portrays her, Larissa Albequerque, I knew at once that I wanted to find out more about this young actress. Thankfully, she was able to set aside some time recently to chat about WCTH as well as give insight into the occasionally overlooked Katie Yost. What inspired you to become an actress? From the time I was 7 or so, I was fascinated with acting.…
Secondary Characters no more In their performances my classmates brought secondary characters to life in three different ways. The first way was to have multiple speakers, such as in Pear and Sheridan’s performance, therefore dividing the number of characters that each had to portray. The second was to have a stand-in character bring a role to life that might have otherwise been dismissed; this was evident in Stacy’s performance. The third was to change the point of view of the story, thereby bringing that character to life, such as in Nicole’s performance.…

Actors have the responsibility to have an effect on the audience and on their scene partners. Actors are able to do this with the words given by text. In order to successfully communicate these words, the actor must have clear image determine of what is going on at the moment. The moment of orientation…
Electra (Sophocles) The blocking and emotion of a scene can completely change the audience’s response or even how they perceive the character as a person. This means that how an actor voices a line or a scene can make an incredible difference. It could mean the difference of the audience hating or loving a character, or a death having meaning or not. The impact a certain character makes can make or break a play. The emotion behind a scene can bring up or answer questions about a character and the motivation behind an action or event that they carry out.…
Growing up as a child, I always dreamed of becoming an actor. In high school, I started my journey by taking drama classes. Not long after, I become passionate about drama and eventually joined Players, a fast-paced drama program which involves daily rehearsals and performances. This activity boosted my self-confidence and provided me with a basis for future endeavours in drama. Working closely with the cast members as a team, I learned that creativity and commitment result in a successful drama play.…
When actors ruminate for an extended period of time, their friends and family become frustrated and often pull away leaving that actor alone and isolated. Method actors tend to forget themselves. This is due to emotional memory: otherwise known as empathy. If not trained properly, method actors will push the limits to the point where the emotional memory alters the actor’s mind. Many method actors are not trained to control emotional memory; therefore actors might experience emotional aftereffects from performing (Nolen-Hoeksema).…
Hollywood? Actors, as active participants in a movie, aim to inhabit their character and adopt…
Erving Goffman (1922-1982) was a sociologist who analyzed social interaction with what he referred to as the dramaturgical perspective or analysis. He believed that people live their lives as if they are performing. In this way, he studied social interaction in similarity with how theatre works with actors, props, dialogue, and setting. Instead of these pieces of theatre, however, everyday life involves people (actors), the things of their surrounds (both props and setting), and the ways in which they create their reality and interact around other people (dialogue, etcetera). This was Goffman’s method for studying social interaction; however, life is not as simple as that.…
