Communities are a place of deteriorating for a numerous amount of reasons . John McKnight explains his theories of the professional problem that helps explain the role it plays into the community and how there are too strong of service systems that weaken the communities. Professional services substitute for the ability of community to come together. Professionalism is the problem definer of communities. McKnight thinks it makes a shift from “citizens” to “client” and with that people loose their identity and makes things become more private . It looses loses the whole aspect of the community being close to one another. The clients don’t have the same type of relationship they would as if in a community working together . He also thinks professionalism causes issues of power and control. Poor people are defined as weak, which people depend on those who lack certain skills to bring in their income. McKnight suggests how professionalism shows inefficiency, arrogance and iatrogenic. Inefficiency is demonstrated by performance of the individuals and how one might put more effort than another .
