Therefore am I going to be sucked back into a life of crime that I once was in and go back to jail or prison? Another drawback to this is the victim and how they feel about the offender being let back into society, if that is the situation. As a citizen, I am not too sure if this works, I have seen the offenders go back time and time again. Another thing is, will my family take me back in? Just trying to patch up all the wrong things you have done to break up your family from being apart for some time. However, just seeing a few people go through a life of crime, the drawback to institutional-based corrections are learning to live apart from a world you once knew, and adjusting to an institutional setting. Another thing is moving inmates from prison to prison away from the place they once knew and their family and friends. It is generally complicated to continue positive family relationships during long-term imprisonment. Some of them did really well when they completed their punishment and others did not. A couple friends of mine committed a crime and was let off easy; receiving only probation. After completing their probation, about a six months or so, both of them got into trouble again. In my eyes community-based correction does not always work. Of course I understand that it depends on the individual, because I have seen it work wonders for others. On the other hand, I had an experience with an individual that abused my daughter and went to prison for over a year and did not truly learn his lesson. I am not saying he got out and did it again, but he is still controlling towards her. With that said I am still leaning more toward institutional-based corrections more than
