In his early years, Copeau’s presentations strived for small, intimate, beautiful productions; later on, he strove for larger production scales for larger audiences. He was also known for being flexible and talented that felt right at home with doing productions by legendary

playwrights and smaller writers. This made him the perfect candidate for being an important figure in French drama and an excellent teacher for performing arts. After being passed over several times for the head of Comedie Française, he finally assumed that post for a short amount of time in 1940.
