Islam vs. Christianity From the establishment of these two religions to today’s modern world, both Islam and Christianity have evolved into two of the most practiced religions in the world. These two religions were actually founded in the same region but at different times. Christianity was founded in 41 A.D. by Jesus of Nazareth, while Islam was founded in 622 CE by the prophet Muhammad. Jesus of Nazareth is believed, by Christians to be the Messiah, the son of God. His teachings and miracles gained him many followers, like his twelve disciples, who followed and supported him leading up to his death. It was not until after his death in 33 A.D. that he gained many more followers. The first believers of Christianity were Jews, most likely because Jesus was. The common belief amongst Christians was that Jesus spoke as an equal to God, conveying him as the new image of God.
Islamic belief states that Muhammad, the prophet, is the founder. Although they acknowledge Jesus, they only do so as a great prophet. While they do not believe Muhammad to be God they see him as “the last prophet”, which is greatly honored in the Islamic faith. It is stated in the Qur’an, the religious text of Islam that Muhammad is standing on the right of God wearing a celestial robe.
Both these religions gained more followers after the death of their founders. Christian and Islamic converts are what stimulated the spread of these two religions. After the legalization of Christianity in the…
