Interpersonal, Cognitive Dissonance Theory And Communication Theory

Within this essay I am going to explore three communication theories. These will be interpersonal, cognitive dissonance theory and communication accommodation theory. I will specifically look at the context, exchange of communication as well as the main principles of communication. I will specifically see current research of how we as professionals can communicate in the 21st century. From my findings from the literature I will look to review this against my own practise with liaison between other professionals. From this I should understand professional boundaries as well as how to communicate professionally with colleagues in and outside of the institute. These types of communication listed communication strategies are all part of an what is known as interpersonal communication (Solomon & Theiss, 2013). This is when interaction is done face to face. We can see our receiver of information and can work off this to understand that they are processing the information. This is still a complex process however, as one person is talking and gesturing we must use visual cues and have an outcome from the conversation. Whether we are trying to convince or direct someone we should get an instant result of what is going to happen from that interaction (Solomon & Theiss, 2013). In the work place it is constantly required. The education sector has an importance and duty to speak as a work force to carry on progress of students and the institute. Communication can happen with many professionals in the work place like teachers, SENCO’s, Teaching assistants to Pastoral and welfare. It is important that all these roles and the many more work in harmony to transfer information to ensure the learning and safety of students.
For example if I am concerned for a Students welfare this must be flagged up with the SENCO, I would do this as a face to face conversation as a matter of urgency. This process would require me to fill out a form as well as tell the lead SENCO my problem to ensure there is written and verbal communication been made. Other scenarios may be through email, and may be seen as the only viable option. Going on courses or training days, reminders to members of staff, or behavioural issues I will use email to send my query to the head of
