The updated InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards includes the statement that, “the purpose (of the standards) is to describe the new vision of teaching to which we aspire as we work to transform our education system to meet the needs of today's learners” (Council of Chief State School Officers, 2011). Why would we need to transform our educational system? No Child Left Behind and Common Core Standards raised the bar for student standards, therefore, our educational system must support that change. There are three main themes within the InTASC professional teaching strategies including the idea that children are unique learners, teachers need to have a depth of knowledge on his or her own content areas, and professional responsibility.

Standard #1, Learner Development includes the idea that learners develop individually and that teachers need to understand this. Standard #2, Learning Differences talks about the differences in learners including culture. If learners do not relate to the teaching because the teacher ignores the uniqueness of the learners, they will have a difficult time learning. Standard #3, Learning Environments states the importance of the learning environment. At times, the teacher need to create a individual learning environment where the students each work alone. Other times, learners will be more successful in a collaborative learning environment. Learning to cooperate and interact socially and as part of a team is a much needed skill to have in the workplace, church or other group setting. Understanding the uniqueness of each individual student, learning style, culture, family and that includes many different styles including
