Two of the most famous and influential bands of that time period were The Beatles and the Jackson 5. The Beatles were created in Liverpool in the year 1960, and consisted of members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They played in clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg, and became known as “the Fabulous Four.” Their albums included Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Abbey Road. Though they broke up in the year 1970, their music and style continues to influence society, as well as the way music is written today. Jackson 5, or the Jacksons, were formed in the year 1964. They consisted of the Jackson brothers, Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine, and later, Marlon and Michael. Performing in talent shows and clubs, they gained popularity with their songs I Want You Back, ABC, and The Love You Save. Steven Spielberg is one example; he was a famous American filmmaker and his works from the seventies include Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Duel. In his career, he also refused offers to direct Jaws 2, Superman, and King Kong. Through his efforts, the film industry was greatly impacted. Peter Benchley, a writer of the time, was the author of Jaws, as well as several other shark-based books. However, he regretted this later in his career, for the felt it induced an unnecessary fear of sharks in a great number of people. Another important figure, Stephen King, was an author who wrote many horror novels. For example, Carrie, which was published in the seventies, and was about a girl who uses telekinesis to exact revenge upon her peers. Today, many still see him as an inspiration for horror novels. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was a well known science fiction series, the first being published in 1979. It was an adaptation of several different works and
