The infant’s relationship with their parents is vital, because that builds a trust with their child. Children build upon the skills and behaviors learned through their relationships with their parents. Children ususally engage with their parents on a daily basis, which provides the child with social attachment or un-acceptance. Parents that have to put their kids in child-care may suffer. Emotions aren’t just simple feelings, but rather simple processes by which individuals use to trigger feelings. Many people think emotions are visible expressions, like smiling and crying. However, emotions are best described as physiological changes and expressive behaviors. Emotional development is crucial for young children, because emotions help communicate with others, motivate human behavior, and help humans adapt to their environment. More importantly, there is a model of emotional progress in children the model is the Greenspans’ model. The Greenspans’ model has six different stages. The most notable stages I think occur between the ages of two and seven months. At this stage, infants are able to “fall in love” and show emotions by cooing, smiling, and hugging. Another stage in emotional development occurs between the ages of 18 and 36 months. At this period in early childhood, toddlers are able to create emotional ideas and begin to frame their own mental images of the environment. Between the ages of 30 and 48 months, young children are able to differentiate fantasy and reality. They are able to distinguish feelings and understand how they are related. Social development and emotional development go hand and hand. Children actually socialize with their emotions. During the first few years of childhood, children begin to learn emotional skills that will become more sophisticate as they age.
