6.5 Hygiene
Until the early twentieth century, worker safety was virtually unknown, The U.S. Public Health Service and the U.S. Bureau of Mines were the first federal agencies to conduct exploratory studies in the mining and steel industries, and these were undertaken as early as 1910. The first state industrial hygiene programs were established in 1913 in the New York and Ohio departments of health. (David S. Gloss, 1995) Hygiene industry is the science to control, evaluate, and recognize the workplace condition that may cause of injury or illness workers. It referred as occupational hygiene that has been defined as the science of protecting and enhancing the health and safety of people at work and in their community (ABIH, 2010). Besides, it also is the ways of monitoring and maintenance the health of the workers and the surrounding community and also the potential risk to health and safety due to the production process in the company. For example, when stress among employees arises in the workplace, industrial hygiene can control the stress. The main purpose of Hygiene industry is to oversee everything that possibly happen to the workers health and the surrounding community
6.5.1 Objectives of Industrial Hygiene Industrial Hygiene has two majors of responsibilities:
1. To determine that the workplace contains nothing harmful to health

The practice of industrial hygiene (IH) is commonly described as the science and art devoted to the recognition, evaluation, and control of those environmental factors or stresses, arising in or from the workplace (AIHA 2010).
