The purpose of this report created is for BB-3306 Human Capital Management modules. Our lecturer for this module, Sir Frankie Ong asked us to discuss about the relevance of Descartes' dictum in relation to the management of people at the workplace today. Separate sections will be provided for this report, which are mainly focusing on to the background information about Rene’ Descartes theory and Working today need, Development of management of people at the workplace today and discussion how this two can be related.

Soon people facing evolution on the way of managing an organization which are mainly focusing on talent, technology, globalization, careers, ethic and diversity. There are so many people come up with theory and method for management of organizing workplace. According to McGregor’s different people have different attitude toward the work and it can be divided into two categories, which is known as theory X and Y. People whom are under category X are assume to have negative attitude toward working. The common characteristic of people under theory X are one whom dislike work, lack of ambition, irresponsible and resist to change. Meanwhile people whom under theory Y are the one who are willing to work, willing to learn, accept any tasks given, independent, self-direction and willing to accept the responsibility (Mind tools ltd, c1996). The relationship between McGregor’s theory and Descartes theory are manager need to know on how to play and control with their worker minds in term of manipulating whatever weakness exist then convert it as a motivation. For example, in a theory X organization should have authoritarians type of management where someone need to monitor the worker in order to perform well and give suitable punishment method if possible in order to encourage the worker to perform well. Meanwhile organization which have Y type of worker do not need to be too strict and it is more to participants’ type of organizations environment when everyone is willing to be the best among other. Probably promotion and awards will encourage this type of organization to work toward better. Same applied to Descartes theory, one need to consider why an organization
