As counselors, our responsibility is to follow the ACA Code of Ethics. Counselors should only practice in the area of their education and training. Counselors should continue their education by attending workshops and seeking supervision to acquire awareness in their field. They must be trained to work with individuals, families, and groups in treating mental problems and disorders. Counselors should notify their supervision of personal issues that may affect their ability to do their job effectively. Counselors that conduct workshops and trainings should only be done by professional, qualified counselors that maintain a license or certification.
