The cognitive theory to psychology is the most adequate approach out of the four theories. “We must realize that cognitive hygiene is as important subject as oral hygiene for healthy and happy existence.” (Ajmera, Aditya.) Understanding ccognitive theory is essential because in order to live a happy, fulfilled life we must understand ourselves, and our thought processes. This approach is the best because it is essentially the study of mental functions. Some of the mental functions contemplated are memory, perception and attention; which are crucial to understand what is going on in a person’s mind and the reason behind behavior. This approach can be used in enhancing learning and memory, bettering understanding on human mental functions, and to also better decision making accuracy. (Cherry and Cherry, K. Cognitive psychology.) Understanding the importance how the brain works cannot be emphasized enough. This approach is the most adequate because it displays that information and has also been studied for many years now, having different models developed; such as the information processing model.
There are 3 main different theories to cognitive psychology. These theories are Albert Ellis ' rational emotive behavior therapy, Aaron Beck 's cognitive therapy and Donald Meichenbaum 's cognitive behavior therapy. (Study.com, cognitive psychology.) These emphasize the importance of the cognitive approach because they explain irrational beliefs and cognitive distortions, which play a role in furthering understanding of the human mind. These can also help a person because the theories could explain why a person is feeling the way they are, and they could be diagnosed and helped to live their daily life
