Perfusion is a very important aspect to the human body. Perfusion is defined as the flow of blood through arteries and capillaries that deliver oxygen and nutrients to the cells and removing cellular waste from the body (Giddens, 2013, p. 148). For us to maintain optimal perfusion, we need are heart to generate sufficient cardiac output. This means transporting the blood through patent blood vessels to supply the tissues throughout the body. Impaired perfusion may occur when the blood supply is reduced or completely interrupted (Giddens, 2013, p. 148). A term that represents this is known as ischemia. is a 68-year-old female who was admitted to the hospital due to chest pain. It was later determined that her primarily diagnosis was CHF. M.G. was a smoker for 35 years and has been living with her husband. She has no known drug allergies (NKDA) and is a full code. M.G. has a history of hypertension, coronary artery disease (CAD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and a myocardial infarction (MI). She is alert and ordinated times three and on bed rest. She is on bed rest due to a stroke that impacted her left side. Her stroke was caused during a procedure of implanting a pacemaker. M.G. left arm is flaccid due to the stroke, is an assist times two and cannot ambulate by herself. She was reporting three out of ten on the pain scale and was on two liters of oxygen. All of her vital signs were in the normal range. Her pupils were round and reactive to light. Cap refill was than three seconds and there was no clubbing present. M.G. heart sounds were normal and S1 and S2 were heard. There was no JVD present but had crackles at the base of the lungs. Bowel sounds were active in all four quadrants and non-tender. She had plus two pedal edema in both feet and is wearing compression socks to help with the swelling. My patient is waiting for doctor to release her to a special care facility where she will have to have help getting taken care
