A hybrid vehicle uses two or more distinct types of power, such as internal combustion engine and electric motor. While there are many types of hybrid vehicles, this paper will mainly focus on hybrid electric vehicles. Hybrid cars are a combination of electric and gas powered engines, and combine the best of both to be much more practical than just a simple gas powered or fully electric car. In the world today there are hundreds of ways to travel, like trains, planes, boats and cars. The most common way of travel in the world today is by car, easily shown by the statistic of the world has approximately one billion vehicles on the road (fueleconomy.gov). In the U.S. alone there are two hundred fifty three million cars and trucks on the road. With many different car manufactures wanting their product to be included in those statistics, the drive to produce the most cost effective car in this depressed economy is at an all-time high. The cars that most consumers will end up purchasing will usually only differ in the engine portion. The cars would be: the traditional gas powered car, the hybrid electric car, and the new all-electric powered car. Hybrids are the most fuel efficient, cost productive, low emissions, and low repair cost. Although electric cars can go one hundred or two hundred miles at the time, it take almost six to eight hours to recharge your car battery.
