The main aim of this paper is to assess on how HealthStar is providing ARMHS to individuals with mental illness. The mental health department at HealthStar is responsible in providing ARMHS services. The department currently has a director of mental health service, an ARMHS/CTSS treatment director, four mental health Practitioners and three masters level social work intern students and a part-time LICSW supervisor.
ARMHS program provides one-on-one services to adults with a diagnosable mental illness who are experiencing difficulties in their daily functioning. Sherry, the director of mental health services at HealthStar explained that the common impairments with ARMHS recipients include: difficulty with activities of daily living, social isolation, inconsistent or lack of contact of medical and social services, financial/economic strain, domestic violence, and homelessness.
The role of the ARMHS practitioners is to act as a listener, coach, teach and advocate for the client, and to promote the concept of recovery from mental illness, inspire hope, and develop a plan with the client for rehabilitation. ARMHS practitioners often teach and practice basic living and social skills, coping skills, relaxation techniques, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills with clients.
