Correspondingly, B.F. Skinner made links between behaviour and learning, such as responding to a stimulus which produces a consequence. (SMITH and WOODWARD: 1996) similarly, In Pavlov’s famous experiments, when a bell rang, dogs salivated. Pupils almost do the same. When the bell rings they instinctively pack up and try to leave the classroom. Behaviour management is like Pavlov’s dogs - only more sophisticated - for example, if detention must be handed out in a class, a way for the pupil to learn from it should be there too. That way there is a motivation to behave rather than one to continue to disrupt a lesson - if they are in detention anyway they may just reason that more bad behaviour won’t make much of a difference.
