How Do Cartoons Affect Children

What do the children love to watch on TV mostly? Undoubtedly cartoons and cartoons are the source of fun for children. As children most of us grew up, watching cartoons. “The term Cartoon originated in the Middle Ages when it was referred to as a preparatory drawing for a piece of art. It was in the 19th century that the cartoons became humorous illustrations in magazines and newspapers and from the 20th century forward, cartoons have been referred to as comic strips and animated films” (Ahad, 2016). It has long existed to broadcast on television and is the most popular viewed programs by children.

They have become much more interested in cartoons over many years and it has become a primary action to some lives. Cartoons have changed drastically over the years but have their lasting effects on children. Although cartoons serve as a good medium for the education and entertainment, they also cause children have violent and anti-social behavior.
Many parents feel the need to provide their children with constant entertainment or to indulge them with what they feel makes their children happy. The child-based movies and cartoons bring to use as "substitute babysitters". In present, cartoons that children watch include depict scenes of violence or danger. The violence in cartoons is harming the children because, at such a tender age, they cannot know the difference between reality and fiction.
They soon start identifying with the cartoon characters and imitate that they need to act like their cartoon heroes, as The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry explains

They who watch too many cartoons are more likely to have addictive problems and they may grow up aggressive and eager to engage in violence. “These children are impatient.
There are three main effects of cartoons that concern violence on children, they become insensitive to others’ pains and sorrow, children do not feel discomfort from any elements of violence around them in real life, and children are prone to aggressive reactions and violent behavior” (Mandrapa, 2014)
The prominent role media plays has both increased and decreased progress in human communication. The children spend too much time in front of cartoons with their eyes fixed on a screen that leads to cartoon addiction and can concern the social life. They will lose interest in all other activities of life when they get addicted to watching the cartoon and they not be considered about what all things happening around them. Children who watch too much cartoon don’t play or talking with other children of the same age so they diagnosed with lesser intelligent levels compared with other children.
