The majority of large animation producers of the time were drafted in to produce informational films for a number of different aspects of the war effort. Animation was now being sought after as a form of motivating and explaining in an engaging manner due to its relatively simplistic nature of the time (Solomon, 1994). It seemed that animation had begun to move away from the notion that it could only be used as a form of entertainment. It was now being utilized for its ability to convey information. Delgaudio (1997) claims that animations were effectively filling this role because they are watched more attentively than live action film or lectures. They were a colourful alternative that allowed a light-hearted veneer over the message. Of the companies drafted in to produce animations, Disney was certainly the most prominent.

Victory Through Air Power (Disney, 1943(Fig.3)) was a notable example of Disney's propaganda output. It documented the theoretical benefits that the use of an air force could provide to America and called for a separate air force to be created to combat the Nazi threat (Delgaudio, op cit).
