How Did Chris Mccandless Go Into The Wild

Did you know that Chris McCandless went into the Alaskan wilderness thinking the he could survive with only a little food and few supplies? Chris thought that what he brought would be plenty to last him until he decided to leave. He also thought that he had enough experience based on his previous trips, like when he went to Mexico. Chris believed that he could survive anything. I think that Chris was wrong about thinking that he was prepared to survive the harsh Alaska wilderness. He had multiple opportunities to get out, but he did now know enough about surviving in the harsh Alaska wilderness to take those opportunities and make it out alive.

I think that Chris was not as crazy as some of the people that have gone into the Alaskan wilderness. Some people go crazy and have had no experience living out in the wilderness at all. At least Chris had previously experienced living out in the wild. It all started when he chose to abandon his car, burn all of the money in his wallet, and donate all of his $25,000 in savings to OXFAM, an organization to help end world hunger. Chris

For the first few months things went pretty well for Chris. He tried to continue to hike along the Stampede Trail but it proved impassible. He did manage to kill a small moose, only 600 pounds. Chris desperately tried to preserve it by smoking it but he failed. When maggots start to appear he says in his journal "I now wish I had never shot the moose. One of the greatest tragedies of my life." (167). This is another example of how Chris was unprepared. If he had been educated in preserving meat he would have had no problem. He could of brought a book on preserving meat. Instead he thinks that he can figure it out. If Chris had the moose to eat he would have had a steady supply of food. If he had plenty of food he would have not eaten the berries and become weak and then starve to
