Every day in states across the Australia, homeless women, men and children walk the streets, often begging for money, carrying plastic bags or pushing shopping carts filled with what little personal possessions they own. It is hard to comprehend that in a country as affluent as Australia there is such a large amount of people in the community who do not have homes. But over the last couple of decade’s homelessness and poverty has become a serious issue in recent years due to the increase in unemployment rates in Australia.
This investigation will be looking at how being homeless affects an individual’s life as well as looking at what the government in currently doing to assist homeless people. The information investigation is divided into three main sections looking at the focus questions from the investigation. The three focus questions that this investigation will look at are
1. What circumstances lead to people being homeless?
2. How does being homeless affect an individual’s human rights?
3. What responsibilities do local authorities have in assisting homeless people? What are local authorities currently doing to assist the homeless and what are their obligations?

The information resented in the report has been collected from various secondary resources such as Government Homelessness Australia and charity organisations.
