How it pertains to the Chain of Command:
Soldier accountability is the one of the main responsibilities of the leadership in the Army. Whether it comes from the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) support channel or from the actual chain of command. The NCO support channel plays the biggest role in the accountability process. During any type of formation you will notice that the process starts with team leaders ensuring their team is all present passing the information through the squad leader to the platoon sergeant. At this point the platoon sergeant will pass the information along to the platoon leader and company first sergeant. If soldiers start going unaccounted for that could mean the soldier or the soldier’s family is going through some hard times and need assistance that the chain of command could provide. Also it could mean that the soldier may be hurt or even more. So the NCO support channel and Chain of Command soldier accountability isn’t to try control the soldier but to just ensure the soldiers are safe and stand ready to do their duty to their county and units.

How accountability ties into the Army Values:


Accountability plays a big role in being loyal. The definition of loyalty is faithfulness or a devotion to a person or cause. A cause could be considered another word for mission. As stated before. soldier accountability is one of the main missions of the army. Not saying that if you don’t play your role in soldier accountability means that you a not loyal to the army or your country. It means that you may not be completely loyal to ones support channel or chain of command.
Ensuring accountability of yourself to your unit is part of your duties as a soldier. If you’re not maintaining or playing your part in accountability you are ignoring one of your duties
