Honors Program Advantages

Decent Essays
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to learn about two experiences that are offered by the Honors Program. Mrs. McCollum, Feaster, and Guider talked to forum about the International Studies trip to Costa Rica and Bridgewater, England. Even though I am not able to take part of the experiences now, but the advantages that come from the trip will make me strive to take part of a study abroad program before I graduate from any college. Advantages that they all talked about were trying new things, building resume, testing boundaries, learning about myself, and seeing the world. Trying new things and seeing the world are two that can be cross out when preparing for a trip overseas because I never flown on a plane and never gone to another place

The Honors College at Auburn is designed to challenge the students that have showed academic excellence in their high school careers. The college should help students think more openly about the problems in today’s world, and lets face it, they are numerous. With the help of professors, the students in the Honors college should be able to pinpoint the source of a particular problem as well as the solution. I am not saying that the students will change the world with their way of thinking, but the students will be taught perspective. This type of thinking can only be mimicked in a challenging environment with people who are pushing each other to be better.…

Essential Benefits of APUSH Advanced Placement (AP) courses are too valuable to throw out, so we cannot ignore the College Board’s most recent revisions to the United States history course. Despite the grievances towards these revisions, AP courses still benefit high school students as future college students. Catherine Gewertz is one of many reporters investigating the benefits of AP courses, and she concludes that AP courses help students “finish college on time” and provide “high school students a challenge.” I suggest that these two benefits are related. Challenged students are more prepared for college, and, therefore, they are more prepared to graduate.…

As a recent graduate from the Honors College, I have spent the past four years learning the requirements and opportunities offered from the Honors College, growing in a community full of driven people, and most importantly, testing my aptitude and fortitude in pursuance of my goals. The Honors College provided me the support and resources, while simultaneously fueling my growing interest in academia. It was with great displeasure that I viewed my next few years at the University at Buffalo apart from the Honors College, and thus it is with keen interest that I am responding to the posting from the Honors College listserv for the Graduate Assistant position. As both a PhD student in the Classics Department and an undergraduate in the Physics…

Having an opportunity to join an organization like NSCS is a benefit to students because it encourages them, gives them possibilities, and hope. I remember when I got my invitation from NSCS to join, I was ecstatic. The reason being is when a student receives an email to join an Honor Society that gives them a boost of ego. Yes this organization is something that can be added to a resume, but students do not realize how important and significant it is to mingle and network with other students. The goal is to build a foundation so that peers can come together and achieve great work.…

    1) Being a music performance student here at the University, it speaks directly to my academic and personal interests in participating in this purposed May Term Travel Course. As a classically trained flutist, and one who frequently engages with music from the Classical era, the whole experience would be an excellent opportunity for me to immerse myself in the culture and atmosphere that directly influenced the many compositions I come into contact with on a daily basis. As a scholar, it would grant me the ability to absorb not only factual/historical information regarding composers and events of that era, but also interact with the world and society shaped these people and their works. As a musician, it would better inform my performance practices and deepen my appreciation for the pieces I perform, ultimately allowing me to translate that into a greater and more rewarding experience for the audience and myself.…

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…

As such, young adults have for many years taken a year off of their studies to travel and gain a broader view of their world. Travelling in its classical sense can often mean a limited budget paired with a lack of amenities. Exploring foreign locations with a language barrier and new customs is an enriching experience, which allows for young adults to gain new traits, discover their limits and strengths, all while remaining resourceful and tolerant. To take the time to explore the world does…

Since the day I first moved to Madison more than three years ago, I realized that the University of Wisconsin-Madison has a large presence in the community. Everywhere I go, I see the school emblem of the University and the familiar cardinal and white colors. Despite growing up and having a fondness for my old state, California, UW-Madison has captured my attention as a community which I long to be a part of. With the welcoming atmosphere and the ability to discuss current issues anywhere on campus, I can easily fit into the community. As an Asian-American, as an LGBTQ+ individual, as a driven and motivated student, UW-Madison seems to be the logical choice.…
